Task Dependencies
Step 4 only starts when step 3 is done.
Block any task until its prerequisites are complete. Whether it's a required checklist, a pending approval or a stop task, Cadenio enforces the order automatically — no manual monitoring required.
The problem
In most workflow tools, every task is available the moment a run starts. Reviewers submit before documents are uploaded. Approvals fire before the work is actually done. Teams work out-of-order and then spend time correcting mistakes that sequencing would have prevented.
How it works
- 1
Mark any task as a stop task
A stop task blocks all subsequent steps in the flow until it is completed. Use it at phase gates, mandatory checkpoints or compliance sign-offs where downstream work must not begin prematurely.
- 2
Set task-level prerequisites
Link specific tasks to one or more predecessors. The dependent task stays locked and greyed out until every predecessor is marked complete — even if they are in a different phase or assigned to a different person.
- 3
Required items enforce readiness
Checklist items can be marked required: the task cannot be submitted until every required item is checked. Combine with dependencies to enforce readiness at both the item and task levels.
- 4
Audit log shows every unlock event
Every time a dependent task unlocks, the event is logged with timestamp and triggering user. Reviewers and auditors can trace exactly what completed before each step began.
Used by teams like
Operations
Vendor documents must arrive before legal review starts
Document collection is a stop task. The legal review task stays locked until all required files are uploaded. Reviewers never waste time on incomplete submissions.
Finance
Month-end close gates reconciliation before CFO sign-off
Each department reconciliation step must be completed before the CFO approval task unlocks. The CFO only sees the approval button when all inputs are ready.
HR & People Ops
IT setup must finish before manager onboarding step opens
Day-1 access provisioning is a prerequisite for the manager's orientation task. New hires are never introduced before their tools are ready.
Work in order. Every time.
Dependencies and stop tasks enforce the sequence your process was designed for.
